Updated: Oct 21, 2019

Subic bay is home to several mangrove forests, one of the most productive and biologically complex ecosystems.

The importance of mangroves to people and environment cannot be overemphasized. Sadly, however, mangrove forests are one of the most severely threatened and undervalued ecosystems on earth.

The International Coastal Cleanup (ICC) was celebrated last September 21, 2019 at the beach area of the Lighthouse Marina Resort which extends all the way to the mouth of the Sta. Rita River. This annual global simultaneous beach cleanup event is participated by millions of people are taking action to stop the massive destruction of our environment.

The Lighthouse Marina Resort Legacy Foundation, through its ICCPH Program, has allowed organizations and companies to implement a holistic & comprehensive program that not only educate people about the beauty and importance of our environment but also encourage a more sustainable mindset and reduce landfill dependence towards zero waste.

The Subic Sailing Club has always been very active in their support for their love for the ocean. This year they are working with SBMA Ecology together with the Lighthouse Legacy Foundation and Make a Difference Travel in partnership with the Subic Indigenous People Assistance Group and the Subic Bay Freeport Chamber of Commerce. Together they are developing ecotourism activities the will not only showcase the beauty of the environment here in Subic Bay, but also create jobs to the local community especially the indigenous people.
